163. Things We Stopped Giving an F About in Business
When you first start a business, everything feels important.
What are your competitors doing? Does every client like you? Are your employees happy with you? Did you handle that complaint perfectly? Should you be doing what another successful business owner is doing? Should you take that job even though every part of you is screaming absolutely not?
Nearly nine years into business, we’ve learned something that we wish we understood much earlier: your energy is a limited resource, and not everything deserves it.
In this episode of the Hustled Up Podcast, we’re talking about the things we’ve finally stopped giving an F about—and a few things we’re still actively working on.

You Cannot Give Everything Your Energy
One of the biggest changes we've noticed in ourselves as business owners isn't necessarily what we know or how much our businesses have grown. It's what we're willing to let consume us.
In the early years, one client complaint could ruin an entire day. Seeing another cleaning company pop up could send us into comparison mode. We wanted clients to like us. We wanted employees to like us. We said yes to opportunities, jobs, and requests that absolutely should have been a no.
And sometimes, we followed business advice simply because someone more successful than us said that was how things were supposed to be done.
Over time, we've had to learn how to ask ourselves a much more important question: Does this actually deserve our energy?
Some Things Just Aren't Worth It Anymore
We're getting into quite a few of those things in this episode — from worrying about competitors and trying to please everyone to saying yes to every dollar that comes your way.
We also talk about what happens when you treat every minor business problem like a five-alarm emergency, why we've gotten more comfortable admitting we don't have everything figured out, and how we've learned that just because you can do something yourself doesn't mean you should.
And then there are the harder lessons: knowing when it's time to stop pouring energy into an employee, client, vendor, or situation that simply isn't working anymore. None of this means we don't care about our businesses. Quite the opposite. We've just learned to care more intentionally.
We're Still Learning, Too
This isn't an episode where we pretend we've reached some magical level of entrepreneurship where nothing bothers us anymore. 😂
There are things on this list that can still get under our skin. There are things we're much better at than we used to be — and things we're actively trying to improve.
But when we look back at the business owners we were almost nine years ago, we've come a LONG way.
So if you're currently allowing every problem, opinion, competitor, complaint, or decision to take up residence in your brain rent-free, this episode is for you.
Maybe you don't need to care less about your business.
Maybe you just need to be more selective about what gets your energy.
