147. Romanticizing Your Life in the Midst of the Hustle

Have you ever looked up from your computer at 4 PM, realized you haven’t stood up all day, your lunch is sitting half-eaten next to your keyboard, and somehow your to-do list is longer than it was this morning?

Yeah … same. 😅

This week on Hustled Up, we’re talking about something that honestly hit a little too close to home for us lately: romanticizing your life while building your business. Because somewhere along the way, hustle culture convinced us that burnout is a personality trait and exhaustion is proof that we’re working hard enough.

And respectfully? We’re over it. 💅

The “Burnout Badge of Honor” Has to Go

As entrepreneurs, it’s so easy to fall into the trap of glorifying overworking.

We say things like:

  • “I’ve been sitting at my desk for 10 hours.”

  • “I haven’t even eaten lunch yet.”

  • “I’ve barely slept this week.”

And somehow we say it like it’s an accomplishment. 😭

But the truth is, burnout is not a flex. It’s not healthy, it’s not sustainable, and honestly … it’s actually lowering our productivity.

We’ve realized lately that we don’t want to romanticize being overworked anymore. We want to romanticize the small moments instead. The little things. The cozy things. The things that make everyday life actually feel enjoyable while we’re hustling and building our businesses.

What Does “Romanticizing Your Life” Actually Mean?

And no — we’re not talking about pretending life is perfect or spending thousands of dollars on luxury self-care. Romanticizing your life can be incredibly simple. It’s about making ordinary moments feel a little more intentional. A little more joyful. A little more magical. ✨

That might look like:

  • Taking your lunch outside instead of eating at your desk

  • Working from a coffee shop for a change of scenery

  • Lighting a candle while you work

  • Using the cute mug instead of the random stained one from the back of the cabinet

  • Playing music while you answer emails

  • Going for a walk in the middle of the day

  • Decorating your office in a way that inspires you

  • Buying snacks you actually enjoy for the office

  • Taking the long way home with the windows down and your favorite playlist on

None of these things are life-changing on their own. But together? They completely shift how your day feels. Because you deserve to feel good while building your dream — not just after you “make it.”

The Small Moments Matter More Than We Think

One thing we talked about in this episode is how easy it is to tell ourselves we’ll enjoy life later. Later, when the business grows. Later, when things calm down. Later, when we hit the next revenue milestone.

But there will always be another goal. Another milestone. Another thing to chase. And if we keep waiting until everything is perfect to enjoy our lives, we’re going to miss the life we’re actively living right now.

And honestly? Some of our favorite moments lately have been the simplest ones. Like running to the bank together and turning it into a little Starbucks trip. ☕ Or stepping out for lunch instead of eating in front of the computer. Or sitting outside for ten minutes just to feel the sunshine and breathe fresh air! Tiny moments. Big difference.

You Don’t Have to “Earn” Joy

This was probably one of the biggest takeaways from the episode.

So many of us treat joy like it’s something we have to earn.

“I’ll rest once I finish everything.”

“I’ll do something fun after I work harder.”

“I deserve this because I suffered enough first.”

But joy is not supposed to be a reward for burnout. You are allowed to enjoy your life now. Not five years from now. Not once you hit six or seven figures. Not once everything is perfectly organized and figured out. Now. 💛

Romanticizing Work AND Real Life

We also talked about how important it is to protect your life outside of work too.

Especially when you work with your best friend, spouse, or partner, it can become really easy for work conversations to take over everything.

And while yes, sometimes business naturally comes up, we’ve learned how important it is to intentionally separate work time from real life time. Because building a successful business means nothing if you never actually enjoy your life outside of it.

Go to the movies on a random Tuesday. Grab tacos after work. Take the sunset walk. Go sit by the water for an hour. Those moments matter too.

A Few Easy Ways to Romanticize Your Life ✨

If you want to start small, here are a few simple ideas we mentioned in the episode:

  • Fresh flowers in your workspace 🌸

  • Sunset walks

  • Cute office supplies

  • Morning coffee rituals

  • Music while working

  • Taking lunch outside

  • Pool days this summer ☀️

  • Reading instead of doom scrolling

  • Wearing outfits that make you feel confident

  • Decorating seasonally

  • Making errands feel fun

  • Keeping your workspace clean and inspiring

Again — none of this has to be expensive or complicated. The goal is simply to create little pockets of joy throughout your day.

Final Thoughts

At the end of the day, yes, we all want to build successful businesses. Of course we do. But we also want to build lives that actually feel good to live.

And that means learning how to enjoy the process while we’re in it — not just waiting for some magical future moment where everything is finally perfect.

Life does not start after the hustle. 💛

So this week, let this be your reminder to do one small thing that brings you joy.

Take the walk. Buy the flowers. Step away from your desk. Drink the fancy coffee.

Romanticize the little moments — because those little moments are your life! ✨
