131. Less Chaos, More Clarity: Our Word-of-the-Year Reset 🎯

We’re officially back from a short hiatus, refreshed (mostly 😅), and kicking off the new year with one of our favorite annual traditions: choosing our Words of the Year. If you’ve been listening for a while, you know this episode is equal parts reflection, mindset work, and real talk about what actually happened behind the scenes in our businesses and lives last year.

This episode isn’t about pretending everything went perfectly — because it didn’t. It’s about looking honestly at what worked, what didn’t, and how we’re intentionally moving forward with more clarity and less chaos this year.

Why We Choose a Word of the Year

Every year, we each choose a single word to guide our decisions, energy, and priorities. It’s not just a “cute planner thing” (though we do love a good planner moment 💁‍♀️). A Word of the Year acts as an anchor — something we can come back to when we’re making decisions, setting goals, or feeling overwhelmed.

In this episode, we break down:

  • What our Words of the Year were last year

  • How those words showed up in ways we didn’t expect

  • Why alignment matters more than ambition

  • And how we’re choosing words that support both growth and mental health this year

Reflecting on Last Year: Wins, Misses & Lessons

Last year was… a lot. We’re talking big changes, big responsibilities, and big learning curves. While we didn’t hit every revenue or growth goal we set, we did accomplish more than we often give ourselves credit for.

Some of our biggest wins included:

  • Delegating in a major way by hiring support in the business

  • Opening a brand-new office (with a dedicated podcast studio!)

  • Creating more structure and systems behind the scenes

  • Experiencing personal growth that doesn’t always show up on a spreadsheet

We also talk openly about what felt chaotic, where things got sloppy, and how moving too fast actually cost us more energy than it was worth. If you’ve ever felt like you were doing everything but still falling short, you’ll feel very seen in this conversation.

Our New Words of the Year

This year, we’re doing things differently.

Instead of chasing fast growth at all costs, we’re focused on intentional, steady progress. That means making decisions with purpose, protecting our time, and allowing growth to happen without burning ourselves out in the process.

Our words reflect:

  • Slowing down without stopping momentum

  • Creating balance between business and personal life

  • Being more present instead of constantly rushing to the next thing

  • Building sustainably — even if it means growth looks a little quieter

We also share why writing your word down matters, how often you should revisit it, and how to actually use your word instead of setting it and forgetting it.

Big Takeaways from This Episode

  • Growth doesn’t have to be chaotic to be meaningful

  • Fast growth is often expensive — mentally, emotionally, and financially

  • Delegation and systems aren’t optional if you want sustainability

  • Your word should support the life you want, not just the goals you’re chasing

  • Celebrating wins matters, even when you didn’t hit every goal
